Taking Control of Stress - A Dedicated Stress Management Course for Teachers
At Elite we have treated more members of the teaching profession than any other sector. They usually arrive complaining
of stress; it is often disguised as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, IBS, burnout, insomnia, and occasionally ME: the symptoms may differ,
but the cause, of course, is always the same.
The large number of ex-pat teachers visiting the clinic prompted the need to develop a stress management treatment plan,
dedicated exclusively to the profession. We combined our own expertise with significant input by several members of the
teaching profession to put together our Stress Management Course for Teachers, which incorporates CBT and other methodology.
The modules are the subject of considerable ongoing evaluation and improvement.
"I met both Martin and Marion Shirran, founders of Elite, on a recent visit to their clinic in Spain. I was impressed with their level of integrity and have no hesitation in endorsing the all-important work they are doing to aid the teaching profession."

2007 saw an increase in the number of teachers who were coming over to Spain either for a weekend or midweek break,
exclusively for treatment. It seems that budget air travel and the availability of low cost hotel accommodation made
visiting the Costa del Sol an acceptable option; the sunshine also helped!

Elite will continue to offer one-to-one sessions to individuals wishing to travel to the clinic, but to
satisfy demand, and to make the treatment available to a greater number of eager teachers at a lower cost, we are now
offering a four-session, two-day workshop, which can be taken over a weekend, or mid-week break, for groups of a minimum
of five delegates.
The group sessions will take place at one of a selection of hotels conveniently located along the coast. Elite will be
happy to negotiate a preferential accommodation rate at the hotel, or delegates can source their own accommodation on one
of the many Internet-based booking sites. We will be happy to email you a list of online airline and accommodation web sites
on request.
After two days in southern Spain, stress will start to fade from your life...
At Elite Clinics we offer what we believe to be a potentially life-changing two-day specialist workshop, where the majority of the content has been uniquely gathered during hundreds of hours of one-to-one therapy time with members of the teaching profession. The goal of the workshop is to provide every delegate with the necessary skills to be able to confidently dismiss stress from their lives, permanently.
Some of the subjects covered are listed below; delegates are assured that each is from the 'real world' based on real problems and real people, to which we strive to offer achievable and practical solutions. At the Elite Clinic we use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, CBT, to help people overcome a whole range of problems: the benefits of CBT and an explanation of its practical use in the field of stress management are a major component of the workshop.
Our aim is that when you leave the course you will be able to:
- recognise the symptoms of stress and its effect on your actions, and evaluate your own stress levels
- convert previously negative, stressful situations into a positive outcome
- always look forward to the week ahead feeling motivated and full of enthusiasm
- master a range of permanent lifestyle changes, ensuring that unnatural stress is a thing of the past
- permanently change your behaviour from being reactive to proactive
Some of the topics covered include:
- why the problem of stress in the teaching profession is so acute
- an explanation of the potential long-term negative effects on an individual's and occasionally their family's health and well-being
- the often overlooked, but vitally important effect of teachers' stress on their pupils and their future
- recognising the symptoms of stress
- identifying causes and effects of stress on your own actions
- defining the difference between pressure and stress
- how to adapt to changes in the workplace
- strategies to change your perception of the situation and promptly dissipate the associated negative feelings
- how to use CBT to master a range of permanent lifestyle changes that will ensure you can always control tension and anxiety levels, instead of them controlling you
- how to adopt a new and positive response to stress that will quickly become the norm
- how to simply and automatically construct positive solutions to negative situations
- understanding the importance of taking control of your own self esteem and self-assertiveness
- how to build up your mental and physical resilience
- changing from being reactive to proactive in your behaviour
- how to maintain a healthy and effective work / life balance
- the positive consequences of nutrition, relaxation, sleep and fun in our lives
- the long-term benefits of building positive relationships with work colleagues, even if, in the past, they seemed unapproachable
- the positive effects of improved time management on creativity and inspiration
- how to improve your personal effectiveness and your work performance
Subject to time being available, actual case studies are incorporated into the workshop. Additionally, delegates often arrive with their own problems and issues that they wish to discuss; every effort is made to accommodate such requests.
The course / workshop is divided into four modules, two of which are covered each day. Registration normally takes place over coffee at around 9.30am on the first morning. Each day is split with a lunch break around 1.00pm. We aim to finish at approximately 5.30pm on day one and at around 4.15pm on day two. Morning and afternoon sessions are split both days for coffee / refreshment breaks. Workshop starting and finishing times can be adjusted if necessary to accommodate flight schedules.
The delegate fee is inclusive of all course handouts and digital recordings of a selection of Elite relaxation techniques. All coffee and soft drinks during the day are included, plus a buffet style snack lunch on both days.
