Treatments to Help to Become Pregnant
At Elite we are proud to have played a part in helping several couples become parents; some women becoming pregnant naturally using powerful, yet natural, relaxation methods, instigated by Hypnotherapy, others being helped to conceive by the introduction of deep relaxation, using hypnosis just prior to or during their IVF treatment. Medical research has shown that using hypnosis instead of tranquillisers at this time can double the success rate. The results achieved are not surprising, as they fall in line with other research into the phenomenon worldwide, and thanks to the minimal fees involved in comparison to private IVF treatment, hypnotherapy is likely to be considered as the initial treatment of choice for couples wishing to conceive.
How can Elite Clinics help me become pregnant?
The majority of clients seen at the clinic are UK residents who visit Spain specifically to undertake a personalised treatment package, which normally involves up to a maximum of twelve sessions. Please feel free to contact the clinic to discuss your requirements, and to allow us to answer any questions you may have. We will, of course, be happy to supply a list of local hotels if required.
Obviously there is often a biological / medical reason behind infertility problems, which can only be treated with full professional medical care, but at the same time, if a woman allows herself to become over stressed about her inability to conceive, this also exacerbates the problem. In a growing number of infertility cases, however, no specific medical cause can be attributed, and it is highly likely that the barrier to conception is primarily psychological, or stress-related.
Stress and the role it plays in conception, is the subject of on-going medical research; existing research shows that the body responds to stress by triggering the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenalin (HPA) system. This in turn releases a number of neuro transmitters, including the primary stress hormone Cortisol, which affects the delicate balance needed for ovulation, fertilisation and implantation of the fertile egg in the womb.
How can Hypnotherapy help you conceive?
Our experience is in line with other organisations in that women trying to conceive are usually doing everything in their power to keep their bodies in peak condition, taking notice of diet, exercise etc. Yet all too often they still allow destructive and negative habits and thoughts to dramatically reduce their level of fertility. Add to this the anxiety usually experienced by women trying to get pregnant, and the all too familiar negative loop takes hold. Sometimes just the fertility treatments alone have the ability to increase negative emotion, especially with the trauma of the invasiveness of the procedure: put this together with the sometimes negative effect of the situation on the couple’s relationship, and stress levels can go through the roof, dramatically reducing the chances of conception. Stress, of course, can also affect the man’s sperm count and sperm mobility.
Hypnotherapy is a highly effective mind-body technique, often women who have been trying unsuccessfully to conceive will be adamant when interviewed that they are not aware of any stress in their lives, which is often the case on a conscious level, but at the clinic we identify the many subconscious blocks that often interfere with conception. In a relaxed, therapeutic environment, the hypnotherapist and the individual work together to bring about more positive attitudes and feelings.
Dr. Christiane Northrup in her book Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom says: “The mind / body approach to fertility is based on the premise that knowledge is power and that a change in perception based on new information is powerful enough to effect subtle changes in your endocrine, immune, and nervous systems. Regardless of what you’ve been told about your fertility, you need to know that your ability to conceive is profoundly influenced by the complex interaction among psychosocial, psychological and emotional factors, and you can consciously work with this to enhance your ability to have a baby.”
Dr Elizabeth Muir, a clinical psychologist who has specialised in treating infertility for seven years, uses hypnotherapy to help couples for which there is no apparent medical reason why they should not have a child. Muir believes that the psychological issues surrounding pregnancy are not sufficiently well addressed for many women with fertility problems, and she claims a success rate of 45 per cent for her clients.
“Hypnotherapy works on the premise that the conscious and subconscious minds may be at odds with each other,” she says. “I believe that while a woman might consciously want a baby, her subconscious may be stopping her from getting pregnant. Most women I see have psychosomatic infertility related to conflicts or unresolved issues about having a baby. A combination of counselling and hypnotherapy can remove these problems.”

At Elite the therapy we offer can help couples trying to conceive in several ways:
Firstly, Hypnotherapy-based relaxation and visualisation techniques are introduced, which dramatically reduce stress levels, and so increase the chances of the woman becoming pregnant naturally, particularly in cases where the cause of infertility is unknown.
Hypnotherapy sessions to combat stress are always recommended to the husband / partner, which help to improve both the quality and mobility of sperm he produces.
All couples are taught self-hypnosis techniques and are provided with specially recorded CDs to take away and listen to as often as they feel necessary, enabling them to reduce their day-to-day stress levels to a point where the chance of conception remains at an optimal level.
The hypnotherapy sessions have proven to have a very positive effect on the success rate of couples conceiving through assisted reproduction techniques such as IVF.
Hypnosis can double the success rate of IVF treatment.
A team from Soroka University, Israel, lead by Professor Eliahu Levitas, presented research to the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology conference in Berlin, concerning Hypnotherapy.
Professor Levitas indicated that tranquillisers had been used in prior studies, but nothing had worked as effectively as hypnosis. He promoted the idea of offering hypnosis to IVF patients where available and told the conference that performing embryo transfer under hypnosis may significantly contribute to an increased clinical pregnancy rate. “The bottom line is I think it’s a good thing: it will work.” He stated.
On the 30th June 2004, the Daily Mail published the results of the positive research carried out into IVF treatment backed up by hypnosis mentioned at the top of this page.
